New data from Skipton Group suggests that Wales is the hardest place in Britain for first time buyers to get on the property ladder. Six of the ten least affordable areas are in Wales, with house prices far outpacing local incomes. What do you think—is this a fair reflection of the housing market? Have you or someone you know struggled to buy a home in Wales?
Yes, it’s tough, but there are still some affordable areas if you look hard enough. Places like Merthyr Tydfil and some parts of the Valleys are more within reach. The issue is that wages haven’t kept up with house prices, which makes it feel impossible for many of us.
I gave up on buying for now. I’m actually looking to buy in the North West. Renting isn’t ideal, but at least I’m not stuck saving for a deposit that keeps getting bigger. Still, it’s frustrating to see house prices so out of sync with local wages. The government needs to step in!
