ParticipantPrivate landlords/agents don’t seem to like people having pets and they all seem to want credit checks and guarantors (which isn’t a thing I can get) and I can’t give up my dog as he is my only companion/friend, the only agents/people who seem to accept pets is housing association but they are extremely difficult to get onto so I’m unsure of what to do or where to fined the help I need/would like so I don’t end up homeless on the street….
Doses anyone have any suggestions of where or what is possible as I’m now at a loss as what to do…..

ParticipantSorry to hear that. There are pet friendly rentals here https://movingsoon.co.uk/pet-friendly-property-to-rent-landlords-that-accept-pets/ if that’s of any use. Have you taken a look here?

ParticipantI am trying to find accommodation with my cat. I also need an accessible property as I have mobility issues and cannot climb or ascend stairs. I also have ataxia which means I have a balance disorder. I am 75 years old and I need help around the home, which my daughter will be offering, therefore we need two bedrooms and a bathroom with walk in shower.

KeymasterDid you try searching via https://movingsoon.co.uk/pet-friendly-property-to-rent-landlords-that-accept-pets/ ? Have you got in touch with any housing providers and what sort of responses do you get when looking to rent with your cat? Interested to see what the availability is like for these types of homes.

ParticipantI live in London, desperately trying to relocate to Chorley in Lancashire to be closer to family. My husband has physical and mental health issues and has been out of work over a year, He applied for PIP but was refused and missed the appeal due to being admitted to A&E with low BP. We tried to get onto the local council ‘Select move’ portal but we we’re refused as it was not considered an ‘essential’ reason to move. I’ve now had to give up work to help look after him so affording private rent on Universal Credit is near impossible and harder when you need a property without stairs and have a dog! 😞

ParticipantI’m managed it, but I had to not be so picky and except a few sacrifices, but I have a roof over my head now and my two beautiful little dogs, a little less money to live on but I accept it’s give-and-take and working with the landlord.
The problem we all face is the people that come before us who disrespected the property with not being clean and not paying their rent and bills, it’s unfortunate but you have to accept it.

ParticipantExactly! tennants who don’t follow rules and disrespect a landlords property ruin it for good tennants.

KeymasterAre you finding it easier to rent a property with pets? When searching the web there appears to be a lot of the new build properties available for rent that allow pets which is great to see.

ParticipantThe biggest obsticle we’re facing, is affording private rent close to family up north on Universal Credit with our very senior dog. I’m at a loss as to what we can do unless we try mutual exchange from a 4 bed in London to a 2 bed up north, but who up north with a 2 bed is going to want a 4 bed in London?
I’m as low as it gets.November 11, 2025 at 9:40 pm #31781MMoradi21
